Stoic Money Reviews: Victoria's Journey
Jul 20, 2025Hello Stoic Investors,
Today I want to share the story of Victoria — one of my students whose transformation really stuck with me.
Victoria is an esthetician.
She works at a spa, which means evenings, weekends, long shifts — in short, she’s very, very, very busy.
When we first met, her biggest struggle wasn’t just a lack of investment knowledge.
It was this belief she had built up over time:
"I’m never going to be able to retire."
Like many others in her position, she felt stuck.
She barely had time to rest, let alone manage a portfolio or study finance.
But here’s what changed everything for her:
We didn’t try to turn her into a full-time investor.
We created a simple long-term strategy that fits around her life — not the other way around — inspired by Charlie Munger’s timeless wisdom:
“The big money is not in the buying and the selling, but in the waiting.”
Here’s how we structured it:
- We built her strategy around a solid core of ETFs based on her goals, complemented by a few additional investments to give her portfolio more balance and potential.
- She made automatic contributions each month.
- Every week, she spent just 5–10 minutes reviewing her investments. If something meaningful had changed, like a shift in the market or one investment drifting too far from the plan, she’d rebalance or make a small adjustment. Then, she simply went back to waiting.
Now, just a few months later, Victoria sees things completely differently.
Where she once believed retirement was out of reach, she now feels confident that it’s not only possible:
It’s something she can actually plan for, even while balancing work and family life.
That’s the power of long-term investing done right.
It’s not about having lots of free time or being a finance expert.
With the right mindset and a simple, long-term strategy, even the busiest people can take control of their financial future — just like Victoria did!
