Reviews from NHS Professionals
NHS professionals dedicate their lives to caring for others, but often struggle to find the same clarity with their own finances. The NHS pension is complex — with multiple schemes (1995, 2008, 2015), different contribution tiers, and rules that keep changing. Combine that with long shifts and limited time, and investing often gets pushed aside.
Â
That’s why we make sure to teach our NHS students how to use the pension website, understand how their scheme works, and evaluate it against their retirement goals, while simplifying the options that often feel overwhelming.
Melissa Yauri Turned NHS Complexity into a Clear Path to Retire Early
Melissa works as a Pharmacy Supervisor with the NHS.
For a long time, she struggled to fully understand how things worked for NHS workers, especially regarding pensions and retirement. With little knowledge of personal finance, she felt deeply worried and uncertain about her future.
But it was exactly this feeling that pushed her to take action.
She joined our Coaching Program with a clear goal: to bring clarity to her situation and finally start building a future she could understand and feel in control of.
We worked together to make sense of her options—starting with how the NHS pension system works and then exploring how she could plan and invest to retire before the age of 70.
Amir and Vivianna wanted more flexibility from their NHS pensionÂ
Amir and Vivianna are both nurses living in the UK.Â
They had an issue with NHS pension: unlike a private pension such as a SIPP or a workplace scheme, the NHS pension doesn’t offer much freedom to manage the capital they’ve built up. On top of that, accessing details about contributions and investments is often complicated and limited.
They wanted something more flexible—a way to actively manage part of their money, instead of relying only on the NHS pension. Through our Coaching Program, they discovered how to complement their NHS scheme with a SIPP.
By contributing extra each year, they not only reduced their taxable income but also gained the freedom to manage those investments directly.
Pia aimed to secure her NHS benefits before returning to Switzerland
Pia Borgas is a doctor working in the NHS, originally from Switzerland.
Her long-term plan has always been to return home and continue her career there.
Like many others, she was concerned about the limited control over her NHS pension and the lack of clarity on how to make the most of her savings and tax allowances. She also had to think about how to manage her UK investments once she moved back to Switzerland.
Through our Coaching Program, Pia explored how the NHS pension fits into her bigger picture and what steps she could take to keep her options open for the move home. We also taught her how to keep her investments flexible, so she can adapt them later to Swiss tax rules, currency, and retirement planning.
Now, Pia can balance her short-term needs as an NHS doctor with her long-term goal of building a life in Switzerland.
